I am a 56-year-old U.K. resident who visited the Grand Canyon last year with my wife as part of a tour of the West Coast of the United States. I had always wanted to take my father to see the area, as he always wished that he was a 49er, or real cowboy at least. He was a romantic who never quite got to the States, but read up all about the Wild West as it used to be.
Anyway, it took a lot of saving to afford the trip, but unfortunately my father passed away before I could take him there. When my wife and I did arrive at the first site of the rim, however, my wife produced a photograph of my father that she had specially prepared and said, “You have now been to the Grand Canyon with your father.”
I was very touched, and am still to this day. The Grand Canyon is awesome in its own right, but that made it so special for me.
