I first visited the Grand Canyon with my family when I was 16 years old, and even as a cynical and salty teen, I was completely overwhelmed by the beauty and grandeur of it. So when my own teen and I started to experience some power struggles, I decided to take her to the Grand Canyon for our yearly vacation.
When we arrived at the first viewpoint on the Canyon View Drive (Yaki Point), I purposely parked behind a row of trees and bushes. I took my daughter’s hand, told her to close her eyes and then led her to the other side of the trees. Once surrounded by the awesomeness of the canyon, she opened her eyes for her first glimpse. The look on her face and her reaction were incredible and unforgettable.
This vacation continues to be one of her favorites. She likes to refer to it as the year she discovered that something bigger than her exists!
