Our family of 4 (kids 7 and 10) spent 3 nights in a Western Cabin. It was not one of the “rim view” cabins, but we could see the canyon from the front porch while sitting in the rocking chairs. The cabin is a BEAUTIFUL log and stone masterpiece from the past. Ours was a duplex, but the entries are turned 90 degrees and we did not see or hear the family on the other side. The cabin is not fancy, it is not a resort. We, however, didn’t come to the Grand Canyon for that, so we were delighted with the space and moreover the location. Kids had a blast hiking and seeing mule deer and chipmunks. We ate a couple nights in the dining room and enjoyed the view and the meals. The “moon porch” is fun for kids, it is right under the sun porch on the rim side of the lodge (access from outside the lodge). Also, we read “Brighty of the Grand Canyon” while we were there. Kids loved that. We went to experience the canyon and you can’t beat staying in the park. It is really wonderful to walk along the rim after the park is closed. So quiet and peaceful. Kids completed the jr. ranger program and had a great time. We went on to Zion, Bryce, and Arches- Grand Canyon was family favorite. (I went to the South rim years ago, couldn’t find a parking spot and honestly, have no desire to return there.)
