I’ve always heard that the Grand Canyon would make you feel humble, but I never really knew the meaning of the word until I walked to the top of a ridge and looked out over the most humbling expanse of rock, cliffs, and sky!
I have never heard a song, or seen an ocean, a work of art, or a movie that touched my senses and emotions like the very spirit of the Grand Canyon! The air was so clean, I couldn’t fill my lungs enough! Looking out across the cliffs, I watched a golden eagle soar and I could almost feel the wind beneath him. I could hear the distant drumming of an ancient people and my heart began to break for them.
Looking down into the canyon, I saw a mule train. They looked no bigger than a line of ants, winding their way along the lower walls to reach the canyon floor. I wondered how their passengers felt, whether they held their breaths, closed their eyes, or watched their surroundings in awe. In any case, they had to be compelled to pray.
I longed to stay, like I had finally come home. And once we left, I immediately began planning for my return. I want to take the helicopter tour, white water raft down the heart of the canyon, take a mule train camping trip, and find a way to disappear in to the most breath taking hole in the ground!
