I fell into the Grand Canyon and haven’t gotten up since. By this, I mean once you’ve spent a few days hiking along the rim, traversing the trails down to the bottom, camped or lodged at Bright Angel up top or Phantom Ranch down below, you will feel the constant pull of the Grand Canyon’s siren call back home.
There are no words or pictures to capture the truth and beauty of this place like no other. Believe me, I’ve lived in paradise (Hawaii) and gone ’round the world twice: the Grand Canyon far exceeds any “natural wonder” I’ve encountered. Imagine approaching the timber-framed structure that is the Bright Angel Lodge. Upon entering it’s great hall, which houses the front desk and great fireplace, you walk across to the other end and open the doors to the exit. First you are hit with a dazzling and blinding light as you walk outside, and, like the most wondrous picturesque vision you have seen times 1000, the Grand Canyon is there in it’s panoramic glory. No, my telling you this won’t spoil it, you will still be surprised and your jaw will still drop. An hour may pass, and you will still be staring.
