Grand Canyon Deer Are Dear To My Heart

Grand Canyon Deer Are Dear To My Heart Tour Picture

I took the train in Williams. The home of the Grand Canyon Railway. I upgraded our tickets and had drinks served to us as we traveled. I really enjoyed the way the Hotel decorated for the Polar Express and how Christmas was being celebrated there in Williams. Parents and children were in PJ’s. The Grand Canyon South Rim was breathtaking. I’ve never seen it before. It was very impressive and we could see people riding mules from a distance. They looked like ants. The driver of the bus tour pointed them out as we leaned fearlessly over the railings.

I took a walk in the morning to see the sunrise which I could not really see from the outlook near Maswick Lodge. However on the way back I took a shorter trail and there was a big old Mule Deer in the path between the lodge and I. As we got closer I could see he was scratching his forehead on a Yucca Plant. Finally after getting some great pictures I started to walk away from the deer thinking he might charge me. Then I ended up in front of him and he walked towards me. he then stopped to reach up into a tree to eat. To my surprise he stood tall and let me take some more pictures. Those deer are so tame. They seem to know they are protected at the park.

The first week in November turned out to be a good month to visit the South Rim of the Canyon. There were not so many people. The South Rim was a little cold but we got good pictures.

Next time we will stay at the Bright Angel Lodge. They have better and more reasonably priced food than the Maswick Lodge. All in all a great time
