Q. How far is the Skywalk from Las Vegas?
The Skywalk is 120 miles (190 kms) drive from Las Vegas, which includes a 10 mile stretch of dirt road which is currently under development. Though heavy rains do periodically wash out the road, these occurrences are rare. It takes about 2 1/2 hours to drive from Las Vegas.
Q. Is the Skywalk open on holidays?
The Skywalk is open daily (including holidays) from sunrise to sunset which currently is approximately 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Final tickets are sold at 4:00pm.
Q. Does the Skywalk ever close?
The Skywalk only closes when the weather presents a threat to the guests, thunderstorms for example. Closures are rare. Visitors can check on the current status by calling 702-220-8372.
Q. How long are the lines?
The lines to purchase tickets are normally pretty reasonable. The peak hours are weekdays between 11AM and 2PM. Wait time for the Skywalk can vary. Maximum occupancy is 120 people at any given time.
Q. Is the Skywalk slippery in the rain/snow?
Yes, the Skywalk is slippery in the rain and snow. During inclement weather periods, a small carpet is put out over the glass for customers to stand on. The carpet only obscures the view of one of the steel box beam supports and does not impede any of the view of the canyon below.
Q. Can I bring my camera on the Skywalk?
In an effort to protect the glass walkway and preserve the Grand Canyon, all personal items are not permitted on the Skywalk. This includes cameras, cell phones, strollers, purses, backpacks, etc. Lockers are provided at no additional charge to store these items for visitors. Visitors are also issued fabric shoe covers which slide over their shoes just before walking out onto the Skywalk. The 46 glass floor panels reportedly have a production cost reaching $250,000 each, and can be scratched or damaged by falling metal objects.
Q. Is the Skywalk wheelchair accessible?
Manual and battery-operated wheelchairs are allowed on Grand Canyon Skywalk using our access ramp. Grand Canyon Skywalk provides wheelchairs for temporary use on the Skywalk. No rental fee is charged. Wheelchairs are available when you check-in at the Grand Canyon Skywalk ticket counter.
