Grand Canyon West (located on the south side of the Colorado River) is managed by the Hualapai Tribe. The Hualapai Indian Reservation is located on the south side of the Colorado River. This land lies outside the boundary and jurisdiction of the National Park Service and is administered by the Hualapai Indian Tribe.

Arizona does not observe Daylight Saving Time. We are on Mountain Standard Time year-round. The exception to this is the Navajo Reservation, in the northeast corner of the state. The reservation observes Daylight Saving Time and changes its time for 6 months of the year.

Grand Canyon National Park receives 5 million visitors a year; this means the park is crowded most of the year. Expect heavy crowds during the spring and fall, and especially during the summer months. During these months reservations for camping and lodging are essential. Day-use visitors should expect traffic and parking congestion, particularly in summer.

The park is least crowded November through February. However, winter weather is a major consideration when planning a trip during these months. For recorded road and weather conditions, call 1-(928)-779-2711. Most visitors come to the South Rim (open all year). The North Rim (open mid-May through mid-October, weather permitting) has fewer facilities and is more remote.

Grand Canyon Summer Weather

Summer temperatures on the South Rim are relatively pleasant (50†-80† F). However, inner canyon temperatures tend to be extreme with daytime highs at the river (5000 feet below the rim) often exceeding 100† F. North Rim summer temperatures are cooler than those on the South Rim due to increased elevation.

Grand Canyon Winter Weather

Winter conditions at the South Rim can be extreme: expect snow, icy roads and trails, and possible road closures. Canyon views may be temporarily obscured during winter storms. Remember, in such cases entrance fees are not refundable. The North Rim is closed in winter.

Grand Canyon Spring & Fall Weather

While temperatures can be very pleasant in spring (April & May) and fall (September to mid-November), the weather is extremely unpredictable. Be prepared for sudden changes in the weather.
